La Fondation Maeght Guided tour
Wednesday April 17, 2024 10:30am-12:00 noon
Fondation Maeght, 623 Chem. des Gardettes, 06570 Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France
The Director of the Fondation will personally guide us around the permanent exhibition and tell us the history of the Museum which was opened in 1964. Some of the biggest names in 20th-century European sculpture, including Georges Braque, Joan Miró and Alberto Giacometti, came together to help create La Fondation Maeght, which has become France’s most important art foundation and is among the world’s leading cultural institutions. La Fondation was established by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, a visionary couple who were publishers and art dealers, and who represented and were friends with some of the most important artists of the era, including Braque, Miró and Giacometti, as well as Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Marc Chagall, and many others.
It is France's first private museum and is modelled on many of the world's leading modern art museums.
We will meet in the foyer at 10:15. For those who wish to stay on afterwards, The Sous les Pins restaurant-café is open.

An opportunity to meet MARIE-CLAUDE surrounded by her work. Marie-Claude is a French artist, completely self-taught. After a life-time of travelling the world she retired to Le Cannet in 2007and began her next adventure - in the world of painting and sculpture Marie-Claude has exhibited in Paris, London, Spain and Italy and exhibits regularly on the Côte d’Azur. She began using acrylics, linen, shells, driftwood, but her painting evolved using many and varied materials, and exploring new techniques to create “a universe that can evoke dreams, stories…feelings”. She is passionate about abstract art because for her it’s important not to see, but to feel, to explore the mysteries of the unconscious.
